About the artwork
This Japanese print by Kitagawa Utamaro was created around 1792–1793 and shows a young woman blowing a popen, a small glass noisemaker. The work belongs to Utamaro’s well-known portraits of women from the Edo period, where facial expression, clothing and gesture receive particular attention. The original is a colour woodblock print made with ink on paper. Its delicate lines, restrained colours and close portrait format make this reproduction a strong choice for bedrooms, living rooms or interiors inspired by traditional Japanese art.
